According to the records, in the time of Qing governance, the rush weaving products of Yuanli had already been sold to Mainland China; in the time of Japanese Occupation, rush hats and mats were restricted to be sold only to Japan. At that time, the exports of rush products occupied the third position of Taiwan specialities, following sugar and rice. Rush weaving had integrated local people and local industry in Yuanli, supporting the local prosperity and development for a long time. However, as the technology advances and taste changes, the traditional skill of rush weaving has fallen out of fashion. The skill of rush weaving has faced the sunset in Taiwan.
